Have a book or movie recommendation or review? Want to discuss what you’re reading right now or the great movie you just saw? We’ve discovered that most of our members so far have a love of reading, so we set up this Book Club just for you! And by popular request, weve added a movie club here too! (FYI: We won’t be discussing Tammi’s little grimoire here. It just ain’t gonna happen.)

Basic storyline form Lon Chaney Jr original. But good basic story...strong acting with Benico Del Toro..and evil Anthony Hopkins is always worth the watch. IF you are looking for new and diffferent, probably not your flilck But good basic flawed and fatal plot that could be no other way...Worth the time and money...

[013]Shutter Island - review - no spoilers (3 replies)

[00c]If I could sum up this movie in two words..."disturbingly brilliant."

The story is that a U.S. marshal (Teddy) and his new partner (Chuck) are called to investigate the disappearance of a patient in a hospital for the criminally insane. The place is on an island and it's an extremely reinforced and guarded. The fact that someone could disappear seems impossible. The two find themselves on this small island filled with dangerous murderers and start to wonder if there is something more going on.

I was really expecting it to be a scary movie...the kind where things jump out and make you scream. That's what the commercials make it look like, but in reality it is more of a psychological thriller/mystery with with a few jumpy parts, and even a bit of humor. While it wasn't that "pee your pants" type of film I was expecting, the intensity was never lacking and there was an eerie feel to the whole thing. The simple but powerful music that was used and how it was filmed kinda made me think of Hitchcock's Psycho in a way.

The plot is really quite stunning. It’s unpredictable and weird and full of twists and turns. This is not the type of movie you watch and then continue on with your day without giving it much more thought. After watching it, I felt that I needed a minute to just sit there and process what I’d just experienced. It actually felt as though my brain had melted by the end. [004]

DiCaprio (Teddy) really did an amazing job with this as well. His character is extremely complicated and conveys a multitude of emotions and I don’t think it could have been done better. Really, all of the acting is very well done.

I have yet to read the book, but a friend told me it’s very good and the movie follows it well.

If you have not seen it, then I highly suggest you don’t hear the ending beforehand, because it will ruin the whole experience.

[018]Hokay. So. Anyone else seen it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

It had a great sense of humor and lots of plot twists and "scenarios" that only Holmes could figure out. With Jude Law as Watson and Robert Downey Jr as Holmes how can you lose? A 5 Star for me.....If you get a chance, you're in for a fun ride.

Twilight Series By Stephanie Meyer - Discussion (24 replies)

Thought I'd start a thread in the Book Club section with a book that sky rocketed this past year in popularity and sales.

Although I'm not exactly narrowing it down to just the book, we can discuss the movie too, but for the sake of those who haven't seen it we'll just narrow it down to discussing what we thought of the previews and if the actors/actresses they chose were right or wrong (opinion not fact) for the roles of their appropriate characters.

I read the Twilight series a few months ago, and fell completely in love with it! I'm a Bella!Edward, if it came down to it I'd choose Edward over Jacob (sorry Jacob, still love you though [005]) I saw the movie the day after it came out. Actually, believe it or not, the movie came out on the day of my birthday, Friday November 21st, so I was psyched out that [029]. I love Robert Pattinson, not the obsessed "I'm gonna marry you!" kind of love or anything like that, but I love it that he's so modest and I think he was perfect for the role of Edward.

I hear that Midnight Sun is going to be published, and I'm very excited about that. I've been dying to read Edward's version since I first heard about it.

Any thoughts? Opinions? Would love to hear what you guys think! [021]

Book & Movie Club Info & Guidelines (1 reply)

How to post/What to post

Our Admin will select books on occasion for discussion in true “book club” style, where you can read along and post your comments regarding the current selection. These selections will always be stickies at the top of the book club forum.

Want to discuss/review a book outside of the Book Club Selection? We ask that you follow these guidelines. Please post the title of the book with “Review” or “Discussion” in the title of your thread. Please DO NOT post spoilers for the end of the book in Reviews – a Review assumes the reader has not yet read the book, a Discussion assumes they have. We do expect that Reviews will spark Discussions in those threads, just try to keep Review threads as Spoiler-Free as possible.

We will leave it to individual Discussion thread owners how much of the discussion is a Spoiler. For example:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer – Discussion
Just finished reading Twilight! Who wants to discuss it with me? << assumes discussion topics may cover the entire book.

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown – Discussion
Who has read it? I’m on chapter 3 now… << assumes discussion up to chapter 3 only. It will be up to the thread owner to determine discussion of future chapters.
